To be honest I like every drummer for his / her unique voice on the instrument but above mentioned are the ones I listen to most. What I often see in Europe is the different mentality which differs unfortunately from the USA-way of making music or making a living from music. It is part of our culture, we don't have country, jazz, blues and sometimes not even Rock and Roll. We all have to learn it and make it our own. It is sometimes not in our blood and that's why it often sound stiff, mathematical. In the Netherlands when you meet another drummer he (more or less) refuse to hang out because you might steel his tricks. Bad words about other musicians. On stage; miking cables like spaghetti are always visible, you are just the band and the P.A. guys... they act like the audience is coming for them. Open drumsound? No way, stagetape! I have my drumset, yeah but we have our stagelights. Do you need all those toms and cymbals? What I am trying to say is that there are lots of very good musicians but due to lack of mentality, professionalism, and the lack of interest and care (and the different club situations in Europe (who's going to a unknown band? we would like to dance on our Saturday night on some hardcore dancemusic)) most unique musicians are unheard and don't get the chance to play with others within the community of the working with a national act. A pity. Thank god there are some who apparantly have managed to make the USA-type-of-making-music their own for which I make a big bow. JP

Most of the european drummers I know come from the prog movement which I dug:
Bill Bruford
Barrie Barlow (wasn't he drumming for a controlled anal voicings artist recently??)
Phil Collins
John Weathers
Ian Mosley
Pierre Van Der Linden (indeed, he was killer with Focus)
apart from them:
Steve Ferrone (yes, he's from the UK)
D?D? Ceccarelli
Manu Katch?
And in rock, Ian Paice had an edge I liked.
Neal Wilkinson,
Now there's a great player...
MP
1. Hardy Fischotter ('The German Vinnie' is a monster!!!)
2. Jojo Mayer (I love his drumming with Screaming Headless Torsos, an American band)
3. Paco Sery (from Sixun!!!)
4. Barriemore Barlow
5. Curt Cress
6. Phil Collins (especially for his older recordings with Genesis and Brand X)
7. Marco Minnemann (Mr. Interdependence!!!)
8. Bill Bruford
9. Pierre Van Der Linder (Next month, I'll have the honour of opening for Focus with him )
10. Mark Brzezicki (tasteful drumming with Big Country)
11. Claudio Trotta (from Deus ex Machina. He is an Italian monster!!!)
12. Alberto D'Anna (another great drummer from Italy)
13. Jost Nickel (intense drummer from Matalex and Triton)
14. Morgan Agren
15. Jon Hiseman (from Colosseum and Tempest)

I did some web search and it looks he's doing very well in Germany. He's also a Pearl artist.
If I can get back in touch with him, I'll tell him about this board. I remember he was deep in Vinnie & Dave.
